Taking Action

On my run this morning, I was listening to a sermon by Francis Chan, a minister in southern California. One of his talking points was if we love someone, we take action to let them know it. We bring them gifts. We give them words of encouragement. We give them hugs or kisses and spend our time with them. Sometimes, we even do things they want rather than things we want to do.

Then he made the connection with God: do we give Him our gifts? Do we give Him our praise? Do we give of our physical means, spend time with Him, and even do things we don't want to do simply because of our deep and abiding love for Him?

I have always believed "love" is not a noun but a verb: an action that has to be seen in motion, not just sitting on a shelf. Francis Chan's devotional further convicted me that loving God has to be all-in or all-out. It's a scary prospect. But when we're dealing with the Creator, the Being who gave--and gives--us breath, can we give any less than our best?

True love is an action verb. We may not like each other sometimes--that's human nature--but it's God's will and our purpose to love each other and Him always. How that manifests is in our daily choices.

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24

Blessings to you.
