End of Quarter 1

Writing Weekly Scripture - Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the earth."

English Weekly Scripture - Psalm 96:1 "Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth!"

It's hard to believe this is the last week of first quarter! Time has certainly traveled swiftly since the beginning of the school year.

This week we will finish our unit on poetry. The rubric for the final poem is posted in the homework section for English. We're going to choose three to work on this week, honing the words, the literary devices, the meter and rhyme. Then together each student and I will choose which is the best to turn in for the final project. That poem will also be entered into a contest. I'll send home information this week. The contest has no entry fees and no obligation to parents or to the school.

Students who are in Mass Band will need to turn in their poem on Thursday or first thing Friday morning. All other students may turn in their final poems on Friday in class.

Also because of Mass Band we'll have our spelling and vocabulary test on Thursday instead of Friday.

In writing this week we're finishing up our unit on nouns. The curriculums for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade vary widely, so it will be a challenge to teach the mixed group, but we'll make it work. Everyone can expect a pop quiz sometime this week and at least one opportunity for extra credit.

Those who have Mass Band will be given Friday's in-class assignment early so they can finish it before they leave.

I hope you're enjoying the blessing of the cooler weather. Although Fall is allergy season, it is one of my favorite because of the colors and the anticipation of changes to come.

Change is sometimes difficult, but when the Lord asks us to change, he means it for good. That is why I work hard to listen when He asks me to change or do something more. He rewards those who follow His commands not only here but in the hereafter.

I will be continuing to change this website to be more helpful to you through the school year. This week I've added a rubric and PDFs to worksheets. Later, I'll add other documents as the need arises. I've also tried to make the homework pages easier to read.
